Description

Haggs Bank Campsite & Bunkhouse set in the stunning location of Alston, the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and known as England’s Last Wilderness. Our site offers visitors a friendly welcome within a warm, renovated building, touring site with electric hook ups and our adjoining campsite set in a wild flower meadow offers travellers to get even closer to nature in this beautiful part of Cumbria.

The whole site has been created to help keep our environmental footprint to a minimum and we even have our very own private spring water supply and treatment plant to make sure any water leaving our site after we’ve used it is of the highest quality.

Haggs Bank Campsite has 2 special areas that each provides a unique camping experience. Our small woodland area offers travellers to wild camp under the stars and we can even offer trees for hammock tents! Whilst our main campsite sits in part of a 4.5 acre wildflower meadow with terraced pitches to enhance the views across the picturesque valley. The showers and toilets are attached to the bunkhouse and included in the price.

Our alternative accommodation – The Bunkhouse, provides self catering accommodation for up to 24 in 3 bunkrooms of 5, 9 and 10 with the largest bunk room having its own en suite facilities and all bedding included. Towel hire is also available at a small additional cost. With a fully equipped self catering kitchen and plenty of space to eat together and chill out; this cosy group accommodation that provides a perfect retreat after a day spent exploring this stunning landscape.

The North Pennines has a vibrant history of lead mining which can be rediscovered at the nearby Killhope Lead Mining museum. Take a trip on a steam train, walk behind a waterfall or see whether you can spot our local populations of red squirrel, roe deer, red grouse and even pine marten. For those wanting to explore a bit further it's only 20 miles to Hadrians Wall and just an hour from Newcastle.
