Breaks Fold Farm is an ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Washburn Valley. Situated on the edge of the stunning Thruscross Reservoir, our farm offers excellent access to a wide range of local attractions and outdoor activities. As a traditional Yorkshire hill farm, we are home to sheep, cows, horses and hens, along with an abundance of local wildlife. Stay at our award-winning farm and immerse yourself in the breathtaking surroundings of West End and Thruscross Reservoir.
We are a small, family-run site in a beautiful rural location, welcoming tents and small campervans. Our non-commercial approach ensures a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, where guests can unwind and enjoy the simplicity of nature. We are always happy to help, but we also respect your space, allowing you to fully enjoy your holiday. With tranquil surroundings and a true back-to-nature feel, Breaks Fold Farm is the perfect place to escape the stresses of modern life.
Camping
We welcome tents, tent boxes and small campervans, including short wheelbase VW campers with standard-sized drive-away awnings and trailer tents. However, we do not accept motorhomes or caravans at this time. A booking includes one tent, one car and one toilet tent, with any additional items requiring separate bookings.
Our site offers 30 basic grass tent pitches with no electric hook-ups. There is no minimum booking requirement, though certain dates, such as bank holidays, may require a minimum stay of two or three nights. Single-night bookings are accepted throughout the season. Check-in is available from 2 pm to 8 pm. Situated on a quiet three-acre site, our location provides a peaceful rural setting with plenty of wildlife and farm animals.
Facilities include a toilet block with separate male and female toilets, as well as a wet-room-style shower block, featuring two male and two female private rooms, each equipped with a toilet, sink and shower. There is a chemical waste emptying point for green fluid only. Guests have access to an information hut with three wash-up sinks, a shared fridge and freezer and an indoor/outdoor washing-up area. A small children's play area is also available.
The site offers direct access to miles of local off-road walks and is located on the 3 Dales Trail route. Dogs are welcome for a small charge but must be kept on a lead at all times without exception. Barbecues are allowed if raised off the ground, but open fires are not permitted. Only firepits and wood purchased on-site may be used, subject to weather conditions. We are a family-friendly, backpacker-friendly, Duke of Edinburgh pre-booked group-friendly and motorbike-friendly site. Free basic on-site WiFi is available, though coverage may not extend to all areas.
Shepherds Huts
Located in our CS field, each hut sits in its own private space, offering outstanding views across the fields, open water views of Thruscross and the surrounding woodland of the Washburn Valley. Relax on the hut’s balcony, soak in the stunning scenery and watch the animals roam the land, perfect for a peaceful retreat.
Our first hut, Swaledale, is decorated in fresh green tones and themed around Swaledale sheep. These sheep are at the heart of our farm, easily recognised by their distinctive black faces and curled horns.
Our second hut, Herdwick, features modern blue tones with a Herdwick sheep theme. Named after our very own Herdys, often called Houdinis due to their knack for mischief, these sheep frequently graze the surrounding fields, adding charm to the glamping experience.
Guests can also book Wensleydale, a slightly larger hut designed for longer stays. This hut includes a king-sized bed, a more spacious kitchen area and additional indoor space, making it ideal for extended visits. Named after the famous Wensleydale Longwool breed and the well-known Yorkshire dale, this hut also offers a later checkout time of 11am for added convenience.
The huts are designed for up to two adults and provide a tranquil, pet-free and infant-free escape into nature.
The farm is on the edge of the stunning Thruscross reservoir with excellent access to a multitude of local attractions and outdoor activities. There are 6 reservoirs nearby with stunning walks, the Lightwater Valley Theme Park and Bolton Abbey all within easy reach.
