Black Isle Yurts is a truly unique self-catering glamping site, perfect for escaping the crowds. Immerse yourself in nature in this area of bio-diversity: give yourself the freedom to explore the dramatic coastline dotted with caves and secluded beaches, or simply relax and enjoy the spectacular cliff-top views. Look carefully and you might even spot the resident Bottlenose Dolphins as they frolic in the Moray Firth.
Our hand-built yurts are designed to take account of Scotland’s climate, retaining a snug and cosy feel, especially when the wood burning stove is lit. All our yurts also have windows and sky lights to allow you to enjoy the natural light and beautiful surroundings. Jenny, owner and farmer, has combined both farming and yurt-making skills to establish Black Isle Yurts. Now in its 10th year of business, we are pleased to welcome many returning guests, as well as new visitors from all around the world.
Our large, private car parking area has an EV charger, and from here you can make your way to our office at The Hub and take in our breath-taking views over the Moray Firth. Our fantastic Hub is well-equipped with showers, toilets and washing up facilities. We also have baby-changing facilities and an accessible toilet and shower-room. When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our team, and provided with a wheelbarrow to assist you in transporting your luggage from your car to your yurt!
Whether you’re familiar with this area, or haven’t visited the Black Isle before, you’re in for a treat! Just off the North Coast 500 route, we are perfectly situated to start or finish your trip to the Highlands of Scotland. Black Isle Yurts is situated a short drive from the historic villages of Cromarty, Fortrose and Rosemarkie, with a range of shopping and eating options. Inverness is 35 minutes away by car, or reach Inverness airport within 45 minutes. And for guests who fancy an adrenaline rush, the Learnie Red Rocks purpose-built mountain bike trails can be found just a few minutes up the road from Black Isle Yurts.
We have eight yurts for you to choose from for your stay: Holly, Aspen, Rowan, Willow, Juniper, Cherry, Hazel Geodome and Larch. The careful positioning of the yurts across our hillside site means that we can offer a truly unique experience in each of them. Read on to see which yurt would best suit you or your group:
Aspen – Aspen is the one of the closest yurts to the Hub which is around 70m away. This makes it ideal for those who would prefer to be near to the WC and shower facilities. Aspen has an outside decking area perfect for enjoying the surroundings and a spot of al fresco dining! Aspen sleeps up to four people with a double bed and two pull out single beds. Aspen is one of our dog friendly yurts and for guests booking more than one yurt it is a short walk from Larch and Rowan.
Larch – At around 70m from the Hub, and comfortably sleeping five guests, Larch Yurt is a totally unique design based on a traditional yurt but with a contemporary twist that really makes it something special. As with our other yurts, Larch is off grid and has a wood burning stove. It also benefits from a solar panel that powers LED lights. However, unlike our other traditional yurts it is fully insulated and double glazed, ideal for all seasons. The kitchen area is separate from the main room giving it a spacious feel. Larch is set up with a double bed, a single bed and a set of bunk beds. There is also a covered seating area, perfect for soaking up the sights and sounds of the forests whatever the weather! Larch is one of our dog friendly yurts. For guests booking more than one yurt, Larch is a short walk from Aspen and Rowan.
Rowan - Rowan Yurt is centrally positioned in the heart of the woodland, well-spaced from the other yurts but a convenient location to the hub facilities which are around 130m away. Rowan is one of our larger four person yurts, with a double and two single pull out beds. It is particular well suited to groups of adults and grown-up families. The outdoor decking offers an elevated position to enjoy your surroundings. Rowan is one of our dog friendly yurts. For guests booking more than one yurt Rowan is a short walk from Larch and Aspen.
Willow - Willow Yurt is our largest traditional Yurt. With one double and three single beds it accommodates up to five guests. It is the furthest situated yurt from the toilet and shower facility at the Hub, at around 250 metres. Its secluded cliff top location makes it a popular choice for guests. Willow has a double bed, a day bed with trundle and a pull out single bed, sleeping five in total. Willow has a compost toilet close by for convenience and is one of our dog friendly yurts. For guests booking more than one yurt, willow is a short walk from Hazel geodome and Rowan yurt.
Hazel - OK, so as a geodome, Hazel is not actually a yurt. At 14ft across it is our smallest structure, and quite different in design from the yurts, geodomes being a fairly modern invention! Hazel is a cosy space and with just a double bed it’s perfect for couples and solo travellers. It has a small deck outside, ideal for sitting out and enjoying the sights and sounds of the woodland. Hazel is dog friendly and sited around 125m from the Hub. For guests booking more than one yurt, Cherry and Juniper are just a short walk away.
Cherry - Cherry Yurt boasts an excellent view across to Fort George and Chanonry Point. It is designed for up to four guests with a double bed and two pull out single beds. It is a short but steep walk from the Hub which is 150m away. Cherry has a nearby compost toilet for your convenience. Cherry is one of our dog friendly yurts. For guests booking more than one yurt, Cherry is a short walk from both Juniper and Holly.
Holly - Holly Yurt has an exceptional view over the Moray Firth. It is the dedicated ‘dog-free’ yurt, sleeping up to four guests. Holly may be one of the furthest yurts from the Hub but we think it’s well worth the (uphill!) 220m walk to access the WC and Showers. However, Holly does also have a nearby composting toilet for your convenience. Holly has a double bed and two pull out single beds. For guests booking more than one yurt, Holly is a short walk from Cherry and Juniper.
Juniper - Juniper yurt is located in woodland above the cliffs. The sound of crashing waves from the shore below can be heard from the comfort of your bed! Juniper is a short but steep walk down from the facilities hub which is around 185m away. It also benefits from a compost toilet close by for convenience. Juniper Yurt is one of our larger four person yurts, particularly well-suited to groups of adults and grown-up families who require a little more space. There is a double bed and two pull out single beds. Juniper is one of our dog friendly yurts. For guests booking more than one yurt Juniper is a short walk from Holly, Cherry and Hazel.
So come and enjoy this piece of paradise on a beautiful clifftop location – a warm welcome and comfortable bed awaits you!
