Description

Mangersta Croft Holidays is a family friendly glamping site on one of the most beautiful, unspoilt coastlines in Europe. A stay here is an opportunity to fully immerse yourself in wild nature and recharge. Mangersta is a tiny crofting village nestled in a glacial valley between the Uig Hills and the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean.

A warm welcome awaits on this small family run site on the Isle of Lewis, comprising three Cabins and two Shepherd’s Huts. Each cabin and hut is equipped for self catering and have their own private en-suite shower rooms. Facilities include a two ring hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, crockery and cooking utensils, plus TVs for viewing a selection of DVDs. Insulation, double glazing and electric heating ensure a comfy camping experience in any weather. Each cabin can sleep four people, each hut two, giving a total site capacity of sixteen. Dogs are welcome too. (Please note there are no facilities, pitches or hook-ups for tents, caravans or motorhomes, as each cabin and hut is fully self-contained).

Mangersta Sands, a vast white sand beach is a 5 min walk from the doorstep, as are spectacular sea cliffs and sea stacks inhabited by white tailed eagles, golden eagles, fulmars and gannets. A landscape photographer’s dream location with many opportunities for wildlife watching.

A short drive along the road takes you to a well stocked grocery shop, with launderette facilities, an excellent restaurant and a community café for more simple lunches, coffee and cakes. In the Uig area alone (within a 10 to 20 min drive) there are over 25 beautiful beaches to play at and explore, many rugged hills to climb and lochs to fish for brown trout.

A handcrafted dry stone wall fire pit is the perfect spot for cooking the catch, and friendly chats around the campfire and BBQ. Watch the sun set in the west, the milky way appear in a dark night sky and for lucky winter guests the occasional aurora.

Glampsite hosts, crofters and artists, Elsie and Derek keep a small herd of grass fed Aberdeen Angus cattle, a flock of blackface sheep and grow fodder crops and vegetables in the surrounding croft fields and common grazings. A small studio gallery with art, craft and photography inspired by the Hebridean landscape, crofting heritage, flora and fauna is located onsite.

The amazing prehistoric archaeology of the Callanish Stones is a 45 min drive and all the urban comforts of Stornoway, including supermarkets, ferry and airport connections to the Scottish mainland are a 1 hour drive.
