Freshwinds in Watermill Lane, Hastings in East Sussex, offers the perfect camping experience in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have 14 spaced pitches and 4 yurts and a shepherd’s hut to choose from, ensuring we suit everyone’s needs.
Owl Yurt
This yurt is next to the pond and enjoys beautiful views of the valley and surrounding farmland. Facilities include a wood burning stove, double bed and 2 singles with bedding and pillows. There is a compost toilet and shower for your exclusive use.
Woodland Yurt
Woodland Yurt is next to the wood. There are two yurts here. The larger yurt has 4 single beds and comes with bedding and pillows. It has a wood burning stove and a camping stove. The smaller yurt has a double bed and comes complete with bedding and pillows. You also have your own compost toilet and shower.
Sunrise Yurt
This is our largest yurt and can sleep up to 6 people. It has a king size bed, and 4 single beds so plenty of comfortable sleeping options. It includes a wood burning stove and camp kitchen with two burner camping gas stove. Outside is a large decking area with table and chairs. The compost toilet is close by and the showers are a 5 minute walk away at the farm.
Valley View Yurt
This cosy yurt comfortably sleeps up to four people and is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Inside, you'll find a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on cooler nights, a comfortable double futon and two single beds, all complete with bedding and pillows for a restful night’s sleep. A camping gas stove is provided for brewing your morning cup of tea or preparing simple meals, along with cooking utensils, cutlery, and crockery. The yurt also features a small solar panel that powers interior lighting and offers a USB connection for charging your phone (weather permitting). It’s the perfect retreat for a peaceful and comfortable getaway.
Shepherd's Hut
The shepherd's hut sleeps up to 2 people and is furnished with a double bed. It includes bedding, wood burning fire, table and chairs. Outside is a fire pit, seating and table. There is also a compost toilet and shower for your exclusive use.
We take pride in offering campers a truly traditional camping experience - no electric hook-ups, no clubhouses, and no cramped pitches. Instead, you'll find space, tranquility and a connection to nature. Our campsite is divided into three distinct areas to suit different preferences:
Mill Garden
Our largest camping field is surrounded by mature trees, creating a peaceful and secluded atmosphere. A small stream meanders along three sides of the field. Mill Garden features 14 spacious pitches, each equipped with its own fire pit. Facilities include a large camp kitchen with two hot water sinks for washing up, two compost toilets, and two hot showers. Firewood is available for purchase if you'd like to enjoy a cosy campfire. Children will love the climbing frame, swings and a large open space for ball games and bike riding.
Stream Field
Adjacent to Mill Garden, this smaller field offers four large pitches, each with a fire pit. Stream Field has its own eco compost toilet and shower, but guests will need to use the Mill Garden camp kitchen for washing up. This field is perfect for adult groups seeking a quieter spot away from the children's play area.
Woodland Glade
For those seeking a more secluded experience, our two Woodland Glade pitches are tucked into a shaded wooded area. One pitch is accessible by car, while the other can only be reached on foot via a small stream and steps, offering an off-the-beaten-path charm. Woodland Glade guests have access to all facilities at Mill Garden while enjoying a tucked-away retreat.
We accommodate small VW campervans, but unfortunately, no other campervans, caravans, trailer tents, or large commercial vehicles can access the site due to a narrow bridge.
The campsite features a large camp kitchen with hot water sinks for washing up, two compost toilets and two hot showers. A 5-minute walk along the fairy trail leads to the farm, where you'll find a flush toilet and a lovely garden to explore.
