The Old Forge Glamping

Compton Abbas, Shaftesbury, Dorset

The Old Forge Glamping offers stunning glamping accommodation in Compton Abbas near Shaftesbury. Situated in a glorious countryside setting in Dorset, we have a range of wonderful glamping accommodation to choose from.

Our idyllic countryside location is perfect for countryside lovers looking for somewhere special to stay. You can stay either in our shepherd huts or gypsy caravan. All 3 are beautifully furnished to suit all your needs.

Sam the Shepherd Hut: Situated in a beautiful meadow, this hut has been superbly restored to offer quality accommodation. You can gaze across to the scarp slopes of Melbury and Fontmell Down while sitting outside. Inside there is a vintage quilt and luxurious sheepskin drape on the 4 by 6 foot bed. You also have access to the glampers kitchen which has a fridge and freezer. The bathroom is just a across the paved path in a converted outbuilding. Here you will find a commode-come-composting loo and a salvaged suite complete with electric shower, sink and a heated towel rail.

Mabel the Shepherd Hut: This lovely hut is in the same meadow as Sam the Shepherd Hut. You can sit outside on the recycled veranda bedstead and enjoy the glorious countryside views. You can make your way out to the composting loo and freecycled shower.

Rosie the Gypsy Caravan: Originally a 1934 Romany Showman’s wagon, this wagon has been beautifully resorted using original Romany embellishments. The charming wagon comes with an antique eiderdown which rests upon the cosy 6 by not quite 4-foot bed. A vintage music box and a wonderful collection of caravan related storybooks adorn the shelves. The original iron stove sits proudly under the mantelpiece which is now in full working order after being lovingly restored after 80 years of not being lit. Rosie is in a small and private courtyard in the corner of Fanner’s field. Outside there is a BBQ and table and chairs. A great place for an afternoon tipple.

A range of excellent attractions are in the local area:

Shaftesbury Abbey.
Gold Hill Museum.
Wardour Castle.
Larmer Tree Gardens.
Fontmell Down Nature Reserve.
Shute House Garden.
