Description

Located in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, Downshay Farm is a working farm. Our farmhouse, which dates back to the Victorian era with some older sections and farm buildings, boasts stunning views of Corfe Castle and the Purbeck Hills. Our prime location makes us the ideal base for exploring the breathtaking World Heritage Site coastline.

Camping:

Our spacious fields offer plenty of room for tents and small campervans, allowing you to spread out, unwind and fully enjoy your holiday. From the comfort of your tent, you can watch the steam train chugging across the valley or take in the stunning sunsets and starry skies. Families with children will find our campsite especially appealing, while we operate a right of admission policy for single-sex groups and groups of teenagers.

Our facilities include two toilet blocks with a total of eight showers, flush toilets, and hot water and washing up areas, all included in the price. We have recently added a spacious bay next to the toilet block with freezers for ice packs and sockets for phone charging, although we cannot be held responsible for any items left unattended. Additionally, we have a disposable point for portable toilets, and any toilet additive must be Elsan Organic. We are also proud of our full range of recycling facilities.

Caravans & Motorhomes:

We welcome caravans, campervans, motorhomes, and trailer tents but do not accept commercial vehicles. Our terraced site, spread across three levels, boasts ample space for 12 vans and comes with a private tarmac access road. Booking in advance is essential, particularly during peak season.

All of our pitches come with electric hook-up (please ensure you have a 25m lead), superb views of Corfe Castle and the Purbeck Hills, and access to a garden toilet block with two showers, three toilets, a washing machine and recycling facilities for all waste. We also have a disposal point for toilet waste, and all toilet additives must be Elsan Organic.

Glamping:

For those seeking a little extra comfort, we also offer luxury camping options at Downshay Farm - "Daffodil" Bell Tent and Keepers Hut. The hut comes equipped with a kettle, toaster, Tassimo machine, crockery, glassware, cutlery, an electric cool box, and ice packs. Bedding is provided, although towels are not. Keepers Hut also features a fire bowl, barbecue, gas hob, and pans, along with garden chairs and a dining table. Meanwhile, the Daffodil Bell Tent comes with a kettle, washing up bowl, torch, crockery, glassware, cutlery, an electric cool box, and ice packs. The tent has two single camp beds and a wooden double bed, and bedding can be added for an extra charge. There is also a camping kitchen with a gas hob, kettle, pots, and pans, as well as a fire bowl, barbecue, garden chairs, and a picnic table outside.

We also offer a holiday cottage, converted from a 200-year-old cart shed, which was previously the farm workshop and has been newly decorated. The cottage is suitable for two adults or a family of four.

The seaside town of Swanage and the sandy beaches of Studland Bay are just over four miles away. Local footpaths and the Swanage Steam Railway make exploring Purbeck easy, and we are a few minutes' walk from Harmans Cross Station. Other nearby attractions include the deserted village of Tyneham and its bay, the RSPB bird sanctuary at Arne, and Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. The Coastal Path will take you along the coast to Durlston Country Park, Dancing Ledge, and Winspit, while Shell Bay, Studland, and Swanage offer excellent opportunities for rock pooling and fossil hunting.

We are open from the 25th May - 4th June and then from the 7th July - 1st September 2023.
